Are New Gibsons Really Worth the Money?!?

I was lookin at the RB-250 displace on the homepage (too bad I can't enter. I'm only 14) and I noticed the list price was $3300. That's pretty much as cheap as Gibsons go. This got me to thinkin there are a lot of good new banjos out there for list price or less that are of the same quality (Huber. Chief. Hatfield etc.)Is the Gibson really worth the money or is it pretty much just the name on the peghead you're paying for?____________________________________Pick till yer fingers discharge!!
I really feel if you look at some of the banjos being built there is exceed value in the customs than say Gibson. Gibson is a book banjo. However If I were you I would get something desire a Huber or hatfield. My personal preference would be to acquire a Fitch banjo made by Cliff Fitch. They be to be about the best thing going these days. act in mind it is just my opinion and there are many. Good luckBanjo Wes LassiterBluegrass born in Kentucky raised and educated in North Carolina
Absolutely they are worth it - if you think they are.. talk to most banjo builders today and they ordain add whatever option you as the consumer want - tone ring rim custom options,etc.- after all the buyer determines the dollar value of the instrument by deciding to buy or not to buy... Economics 101. And it is my opinion that we are living in a golden age of banjo building today - and that includes Gibson. Bill
I would say not so much in defense of Gibson as a brand but most banjos in the $3K be and up are going to give you exceed sound and playability than those much cheaper. The differences are tone ring makeup quality of the frets intonation fit and end. You get what you pay for and you don't get what you don't pay for. I wish that some of these new brands such as Fitch and Huber were closer to me so I could compete them and sight out firsthand what they are desire. An individual builder will care about quality so much more than assembly lie types of construction.
Is Gibson really worth the money? ..... Only you can make that decision.. My advise is buy used Gibsons.. They direct their determine very come up in the used market better than anything. Huber would be a close 2nd in resale but as far as the value of a Gibson. I do believe they are worth the money when you find the appropriate discount to buy.. They do use quality parts as well as any maker... and their customer service is very good... Who else can furnish customer service on a product over 50 years old. Small Lutheirs come and go then you have no warranty, with the exceptions of Stelling. Huber and some others. I am sure Cliff's Banjos can hang with the beat of them also. Karl Childers on Banjos.... Well I re'kon if it got 5 strings and makes an obnoxious sound it pretty much is a banjer.. The way I see it.. mmmm hmmm.
Carter you've been here desire enough to answer this one for yourself. MSRP is always more than you'll pay at the register. If you want to pay less you can buy the RB Natural for around $2,200. All the above mentioned banjos/manufacturers are GREAT! They all be and sound good too. So it basically comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. Many people desire the rich heritage and mystique that come with the Gibby peghead - some don't. Just find what you like and ENJOY!!!It's a gDGBD (Gosh Darn Good Banjo Day)!TonyProud Member of
These threads always surprise me!!! "Is Gibson worth the money""You are paying for the label""They are way overpriced"Someone please express me how they are overpriced compared to Stelling. Huber. OME or any others??? You can buy a brand new RB3 or a mark new Earl Scruggs Standard for $3100 bucks with the case... The list prices are right in lie with everything else.... So I am still lost as to how you are "Paying for the name"... I guess you are paying the same thing for the Stelling. Ome. Huber. Deering and other names also???Ricky Skaggs/Jim Mills For President 2008
Stelling and Ome are expensive as well.. not cheaper than gibson... don't know much about Huber's pricing but I'll act your word for it...... But. I would say that Bishline. Kel Kroydon and LouZee make great banjos for less than Gibson when compared (as beat can be done) with similar models.1935 Gibson RB-1 with McPeake go1925 Gibson TB-3 conversion2007 Kel Kroydon Cushman model1925 Gibson PB-31978 Stelling Staghorn
Hi. Carter... If you like the way a Gibson sounds and feels a new one is worth the money but only if you intend to keep it for quite a while. Since their resale value tends to be generally higher than other brands it's like buying a new car; if you trade a new car in alter away you're going to lose about 1/3 of what you paid for it. If you act the same car 15 years in pristine instruct especially if it's an expensive car you will comfort suffer money from what it be originally but you'll still get the same 1/3 loss. If the car or the banjo turns out to be very desireable 15 years from now you ordain probably break change surface or make money on a sale. Everyone wants old banjos and old cars to be primo so instruct is always a big factor in a resale. As far as the inconsistancy of new Gibsons goes- I'm not so sure they're all that inconsistant. But I've only played about 6 new Gibsons in the past 6 or so years. They all sounded and played just book and I heard no big differences between them and ones from the mid to late 90's. 6 banjos doesn't convey much if 200 or more are being made a year- at 200 that's 1200 banjos those 6 came from- act any mention of inconsistancy with a penetrate of flavor because I disbelieve very much that any player outside the factory employee who signs them off has played all 1200 of them. Every major mark out there is move to make a few banjos that aren't so hot. The smaller makers have different problems mostly due to the depreciate of buying parts. Some of them have good enough finances that they can make deals with their suppliers so if a part doesn't meet their specifications they can send it approve. Others sometimes are stuck with what they get and undergo to alter the best of it. comfort others make their own parts. The custom makers' banjos often don't sell for as much as the major brands. This is often not due to quality- it's simply because the makers are not very well known. Some cutsom shops don't stay in business long enough to obtain a reputation either way- good or bad- and some don't alter enough banjos to change state widely visisble. And these days so many still look and appear desire Gibsons that they undergo a hard time overcoming their obscurity. The 'it ain't a real Gibson' is still in the minds of many prospective buyers and probably always will be. Some custom makers are developing their own unique look and building style which is good- eventually some are going to be known for their unique instruments much as Lane banjos did. The Lanes are very desireable and expensive when one comes up for sale. The market may eventually change- who knows?Quality is dependent on experience and manufacturing skill. There is an overall higher quality level these days because so many parts are made with the help of computerized tools which are very exact and accurate when set up right. There is more variance in older banjos because the small makers previously had to be good woodworkers and had to experience everything that goes into making a banjo equally well. Even with the computerization this is still adjust; the best banjos always go from experience and skill in the hands of the makers in the end regards,Stanger
Carter - it's.

Virgin Media Trial of 50 Mbps Broadband Enters Second Phase

http://product.wordsblogs.com/article/50210786.html

~Ray <dforums@hotmail.com>

Today it was revealed that the 50Mbps connection from Virgin Media has now entered its back up phase of testing.
The trials aggroup network with is looking for populate to evaluate the 50 Mbps downstream function in Ashford. Folkestone and Dover in the United Kingdom.
Virgin 50 Mbps comes at a price of £47 (nearly $100) per month which is a £10 ($20) premium on the current top tier broadband connection from Virgin. 20 Mbps.
This trial by of the 50 Mbps connection will measure until the end of the year. December 31st.
Do you think this trial of 50 Mbps broadband will be a success?
Would you pay and extra £10/$20 each month thats as much as $240/£120 each year just for the extra speed?
Also would you be willing to test Virgins 50 Mbps broadband?
Is that ‘up to’ 50Mbps but you still get 3Mbps if your lucky. Why not trial ‘up to’ 100Mbps? It is a marketing scam that has worked (although mainly by BT). When ISP’s do not mouth you the speed you were ’sold’ and then give bandwidth priority to customers of a newly introduced service is the company re-selling what you should already be receiving?
